Ukraine Refugee Housing Project

Our Homes for Ukraine Private Rented Sector Support Programme helps Ukrainian households living in Southwark move into safe, suitable homes in the private rented sector.

Helping Ukrainian households find safe, sustainable homes

Finding a new home after fleeing conflict can be overwhelming. Navigating the UK housing system, understanding your rights, and securing a private rented home can be challenging without the right support.

Working alongside Southwark Council and local partners, we provide practical, one-to-one support to help Ukranian households find accommodation, settle into their new homes, and build independent lives within their communities.

Who can access this service?

This service is available to Ukrainian households who:

  • Have the right to remain in the UK.
  • Have a local connection to Southwark.
  • Are currently living with hosts or in temporary accommodation.
  • Need support to find accommodation in the private rented sector.

How we can help

Our experienced Housing Support Practitioners provide tailored support throughout every stage of the housing journey. We can help households:

  • Search for suitable private rented accommodation.
  • Register with property websites and letting agents.
  • Communicate with landlords, letting agents and Southwark Council.
  • Understand Local Housing Allowance (LHA) and housing affordability.
  • Prepare for and attend property viewings (where capacity allows).
  • Negotiate with landlords and letting agents.
  • Access benefits and maximise your income.
  • Explore employment opportunities through partner services.
  • Set up your tenancy, utilities and essential household bills.
  • Apply for grants and other financial support where available.
  • Register with local services such as your GP.
  • Connect with your local community and support networks.
  • Sustain your tenancy and build confidence living independently.

Supporting long-term independence

Our support doesn’t stop once you’ve found a property.

We work alongside you to help you settle into your new home, understand your tenancy responsibilities, access local services and build the confidence needed to maintain your tenancy in the future.

By providing preventative housing support, we help reduce the risk of homelessness while enabling households to establish stable, independent lives within their communities.

Working in partnership

This programme is delivered in partnership with Southwark Council’s Resettlement Team and builds on Kineara’s extensive experience supporting people into private rented accommodation.

Together, we help households navigate the housing system while also supporting access to employment, benefits, health services and wider community support.

Kineara also works closely with local landlords, letting agents and community organisations to increase housing opportunities and improve outcomes for Ukrainian households across Southwark.

Housing advice workshops

Alongside one-to-one support, we also deliver workshops covering:

  • Understanding the UK housing system.
  • Finding private rented accommodation.
  • Your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
  • Managing expectations around housing options.
  • Practical advice for living independently in the UK.

These sessions help participants better understand the private rented sector and feel more confident throughout the housing process.
