No child should struggle at school because of unsafe, unstable, or unsuitable housing.
Kineara’s School Housing Advice Project works directly with schools to support families facing housing insecurity, temporary accommodation, eviction risks, disrepair, financial hardship, and other housing challenges.
By bringing housing advice into schools, we make support easier to access, more trusted, and available at the point families need it most.
Whether a family is living in temporary accommodation, dealing with mould and damp, struggling with rent arrears, or facing eviction, our team is here to help.
Why this project matters

Housing instability impacts every part of family life, especially children’s wellbeing, attendance, and education.
Many families are facing:
- Temporary accommodation placements far from school
- Unsafe or overcrowded living conditions
- Damp, mould, and disrepair
- Rising financial pressures
- Threats of eviction or homelessness
- Difficulty navigating council housing systems
How we support
Too often, parents do not know where to turn or cannot access support in time.
Our School Housing Advice Project changes that by placing housing support directly within schools and trusted community spaces, helping families deal with temporary accommodation, disrepair, damp, mould and condensation, unsuitable or overcrowded housing, rent arrears, eviction notices, financial hardship, housing applications and council communication, and possession proceedings, including referrals for legal support where needed.
Referral through school
Schools identify families who may need housing support and help parents complete a referral form.
Initial advice session
Families meet with a Kineara housing practitioner to discuss their situation, understand their rights, and begin pre-action support.
Ongoing support
Families receive continued advice, follow-up sessions, advocacy, and referrals depending on the complexity of their situation.
Specialist legal support
Where needed, referrals are made to Southwark Law Centre for further legal advice and representation.
Our Partnership With Southwark Law Centre
Kineara works closely with Southwark Law Centre to ensure families can access specialist housing legal advice where needed. This partnership allows families facing serious housing challenges to receive expert legal guidance and support.
Together, we help families navigate complex housing systems and achieve safe, stable housing.
